Why does Canadian Milk Matter in Infant Formula?

As a parent, you want confidence in every bottle you prepare for your baby. Beyond the nutrition label, you want to know where the ingredients come from, how they're produced, and the care taken to ensure they're safe and of the highest quality. In infant formula, every ingredient has a purpose, and the most thoughtfully chosen ingredients also have a story behind them- a story shaped by the people, care, and standards behind them. At NIURISS, that story begins on Canadian dairy farms.
You’ve heard that all NIURISS formulas are made from Canadian milk, but what does that truly mean? As the first ingredient in every NIURISS formula, the quality of our milk matters from the very beginning. That's why NIURISS chose Canadian milk: because it is produced under rigorous quality and safety standards, while also supporting local dairy farmers and a trusted Canadian agricultural community.
For Canadian families, that means confidence that the first ingredient in every NIURISS formula comes from a highly regulated dairy system built on rigorous quality standards, responsible animal care, and the dedication of Canadian dairy farmers, bringing quality from farm to formula.

Canadian Milk Begins with Canadian Farmers
The journey of Canadian milk begins on family-run dairy farms across Ontario, where generations of farmers work every day to produce high-quality milk with care, dedication and consistency.
Behind every litre of Canadian milk are farmers who take pride in their role in nourishing families. Dairy farming is often a family tradition passed down through generations, with farmers combining experience, knowledge, and modern practices to produce high-quality milk. For these farmers, producing high-quality milk is not just a job; their responsibility extends far beyond simply producing milk. It includes caring for their animals, supporting the health of their herds, protecting the environment through responsible farming practices, and contributing to the communities they call home.
Canada's dairy industry is an important part of rural communities, supporting hundreds of thousands of jobs while helping provide families with safe, nutritious dairy products. By sourcing Canadian milk, NIURISS supports a farming community whose dedication is the first step in the journey from farm to formula, reflecting our commitment to providing Canadian families with thoughtfully made nutrition they can trust.

Caring for the Cows
High-quality milk begins with healthy cows, which is why animal care is one of the highest priorities on Canadian dairy farms. From birth through every stage of life, cows receive attentive care designed to support their health and well-being.
As cows mature, their care continues through every aspect of their daily routine. Dairy farmers provide balanced nutrition tailored to their needs, including a carefully formulated diet made from ingredients such as hay, silage, grains, protein sources, and essential minerals. Fresh water is also a vital part of their care, with dairy cows drinking significant amounts each day to support their health and milk production.
Through established animal care standards, farmers provide clean, comfortable housing with proper bedding, space to rest, and conditions designed to support the health and comfort of their herds. Regular health monitoring and veterinary care are also essential parts of responsible dairy farming. Farmers work closely with licensed veterinarians to help maintain healthy herds and provide treatment when needed.

Canadian Standards: From Farm to Formula
The care that begins on Canadian dairy farms is supported by strict Canadian standards designed to protect the quality and safety of Canadian milk. From responsible antibiotic use to rigorous testing before the milk even reaches factories, every step of the journey is carefully monitored before milk becomes an ingredient in NIURISS formulas.
Responsible Antibiotic Use
Canadian dairy farmers work closely with veterinarians to help maintain health of the dairy cows and provided care and treatment when needed. If a dairy cow becomes ill and requires antibiotic treatment, strict protocols are followed to protect the milk supply. Her milk is removed from the food supply for a regulated period until the medication has cleared her system, and every milk shipment is tested to ensure it meets safety requirements before entering production.
No Artificial Growth Hormones
Canadian dairy farmers do not use artificial growth hormones to increase milk production. While dairy cows naturally produce bovine somatotropin (BST), the artificial version, recombinant bovine somatotropin (rbST), is strictly prohibited in Canada. This is one of the many standards that helps ensure the quality and integrity of Canadian milk.
Quality Testing Before Milk Reach Production
Although milk is routinely tested throughout the production process, quality assurance checks begin on the farm. Before milk leaves the farm, it is routinely tested and monitored to ensure it meets Canadian dairy standards. This includes checks such as bacterial counts, tests that help assess cow health and milk quality (somatic cell testing), and screening for antibiotic residues to confirm is free of antibiotics. These tests all confirm, at the farm-level, that the milk is safe for the food supply, and can be sent to production facilities.
Upon arrival at NIURISS facilities, every milk delivery undergoes another round of quality checks before it is accepted for production, including temperature and antibiotic residue screening (again). Each delivery is evaluated to confirm it meets NIURISS quality standards, and only milk that meets these requirements continues into the formula manufacturing process.

From Canadian Farms to Your Family
At NIURISS, Canadian milk represents the trust built through generations of farming, responsible practices, and rigorous quality standards. As the first ingredient in every NIURISS formula, it sets the foundation for everything that follows. Choosing Canadian milk means supporting local dairy farmers and partnering with a system committed to safety, consistency, and quality at every stage. From farm to formula, NIURISS is proud to bring families nutrition crafted with care and backed by standards they can trust.
